Gardasil is a vaccine designed to protect against certain strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV). Gardasil was initially designed for females. It is now available and reccommended for both males and females between 9-26 years of age.

Gardasil is considered a recombiant vaccine that protects against the human papilloma virus types 6, 11, 16, and 18. It helps protect against two types of the virus that cause around 75% of cervical cancer cases. Gardasil also protects against two more types of the virus that account for 90% of cases involving genital warts. The vaccine is given in three separate installments over the course of six months. The vaccine does not guarantee protection against cervical cancer.
