Sexual abuse is an abhorrent crime that is unfortunately all too common. It is an act of coercion through the use of fear, force, or power. The legal consequences for those found guilty of sexual abuse are severe, and the process of convicting perpetrators is usually long and complex. Furthermore, depending on the victim, the act can be referred to differently. For example, sexual abuse of a minor is legally referred to as child abuse. Fortunately, many locations around the world have put in place an extensive support system for victims of sexual abuse. This helps to ensure that justice is served and that those affected by this heinous crime have the resources they need to heal and move forward.

More About Sexual Abuse

A victim of sexual abuse goes through extreme mental, emotional, and physical stress. It is important to get help when available. Private sessions with a trained psychologist might be necessary. Otherwise, there are group therapy sessions available for victims. It is important to open up about the trauma instead of keeping the conflict within. Recovery may be achieved faster when a victim has a supportive group around them.
